OUR VISION
Coming to downtown Lewiston, Maine in early 2027, Timberworks Studio & Gallery is a dedicated turning studio and gallery. Occupying a 4,000-square-foot historic storefront, Timberworks is a hybrid space, split into two distinct experiences:
The Gallery: A sleek, beautifully lit showroom showcasing museum-quality turned vessels, hollow forms, and sculptural art. Dedicated to highlighting the region’s finest talent, the gallery features a rotating selection of works by both Timberworks members and esteemed local artisans—giving our makers an exclusive retail stage and commercial forum to sell their work.
The Studio: A state-of-the-art turning studio offering workshops and demonstrations for all skill levels, alongside affordable monthly memberships. Members enjoy 24/7 access to our fleet of premier lathes, professional dust collection, and specialized equipment.
BUILDING COMMUNITY THROUGH WOODTURNING
This isn't just another generic, shared makerspace; we are building a first-of-its-kind, dedicated woodturning studio. Our mission is to open doors and lower barriers—cultivating a vibrant, safe environment where the craft is truly accessible and driven by a passionate community of makers.
-
The Theater of Craft: Positioned right at the front of the space, our retail gallery serves as a visual theater for the craft. A dramatic, industrial-framed glass wall sits atop a structural half-wall, seamlessly separating the quiet showroom from the energy of the workshop. Here, visitors can admire pristine, museum-quality works while watching the sawdust fly as members and students shape raw material just steps away.
-
The Machine Fleet: Outfitted with a mix of pro-sized, heavy-duty premier lathes reserved exclusively for members, and smaller midi-lathes accessible to both members and those attending classes. Our fleet perfectly balances the needs of turners of all levels, providing a seamless pathway from true beginners to elite masters.
-
Dust & Air Quality: We take care of the shavings and dust collection so you don't have to. Our advanced, industrial dust collection system handles the mess entirely behind the scenes, creating a safe and clean environment you can truly enjoy—all while keeping the retail gallery quiet and dust-free.

THE STUDIO EXPERIENCE
Whether you're a novice who has never even seen a lathe before or a master turner refining a complex hollow form after hours, our studio is designed to feel like your ultimate creative home. We are cultivating a culture of active mentorship, safety, and shared inspiration. It’s a space where master turners and curious beginners work side-by-side, trading ideas, perfecting techniques, and elevating the craft together.
-
Workstations & Advanced Finishing Tools: Beyond the lathes, our perimeter work stations feature dedicated zones equipped for detailing, embellishing, and finishing your turnings.
-
Designated Member Shelving: Members have designated shelf space to safely store their works-in-progress between sessions—allowing you to leave your pieces exactly as they are and pick up right where you left off.
-
A Modern Creative Community: Timberworks is intentionally built to be an inclusive, welcoming launchpad for the next generation of turning. We provide a supportive space where makers of all backgrounds, ages, and skill levels can create and grow, together.
